Art Nouveau 18ct gold & diamond pocket watch - c1895
£1,650
Description
This is a simply beautiful Swiss-made Art Nouveau diamond pocket watch, dating from around 1895 and in as near to mint all-original condition as you will find for a watch dating back over 110 years - brighter than photographed. The watch comes from my watchmakers private collection and features a gorgeous solid 18ct gold case, with classic Art Nouveau decoration and set with 8 genuine oldcut diamonds. The case has a small ding on the outside back. The enamel dial is in mint bright condition - no cracks or chips - and the high quality Swiss crown-wound movement was made by L. Perrenoud & Co of Chaux de Fords, Switzerland. The movement has just been cleaned and oiled by my watchmaker and is in full working order. The watch comes complete with a new presentation box. I sense it will make someone a very special Christmas present as well as providing an excellent financial investment.
My asking price is below the value of the watch, given the continual rise in value of antique pocket watches of this quality. Such is the high quality of the watch, I will include a six month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order. Also, I offer a full refund if you are not entirely happy, as long as the watch is returned within seven days if UK customer, fourteen days if overseas, in the same condition. Please feel free to view the watch in central London.
The solid 18ct gold classic Art Nouveau case features beautiful hand work and is in near mint condition, apart from one small ding on the outside back of the case. It is set with 8 genuine diamonds and measures 33mm x 9mm deep x 45mm long, including the solid 18ct gold stem/bow. Both stem and bow are in very good condition. Both back lids [cuvettes] are hallmarked for 18ct gold and close correctly, with the hinge in good order. The inside cuvette carries a beautifully engraved personal inscription. The outside back has a matt finish.
The beautiful enamel dial is in mint clean, bright condition - no cracks or chips - and is signed with a retailers name - ‘Podesta Hnos’. The original gold hands are in excellent unbent condition and the lens is perfectly clear.
The original crown-wound Swiss movement is excellent quality and is much brighter and cleaner than photographed. It is in excellent, bright condition and is signed 'L. Perrenoud & Co’, ‘Chaux - de - Fords’ and the ‘87515’ movement number. The movement has just been cleaned and oiled by my watchmaker and is in very good working order for its age.
A superb Art Nouveau antique pocket watch; full of charm and history. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
