This is an exceptionally fine example of the iconic Rolex Oyster with the cushion case - one of the most collectable vintage watches of all time. These watches are now very rare and fewer and fewer of them are coming to the market in any condition; even fewer in such excellent condition as this one. In time the prices will rocket. Dating from 1929, the watch has all original parts and is in excellent near-mint condition - it has clearly been cared for throughout its lifetime. An excellent financial investment.
The watch features a gleaming solid 9ct gold case, original screw down crown, mint engine turned dial, blued steel hands and high-grade Rolex Prima 15 jewel hand-wound movement. The movement has just been cleaned and oiled by a professional watchmaker and is in excellent working order. It comes complete with a new Hirsch leather strap, new Rolex gold plated buckle and new quality non-Rolex watch box. The Rolex Oyster was created by Rolex as the first waterproof watch. However, the watch is now very old and should not be used in water.
The solid 9ct yellow gold double screw-back case is in very fine, gleaming condition, with no significant wear, and measures 29.5mm wide, excluding the original screw-down Oyster crown (35.5mm with crown) x 9mm thick x 34mm long including the solid gold fixed bar lugs. The back and front section screw correctly closed with the threads in good order. The thread on the screwdown crown is also in good order. The the inside is signed 'Rolex', 'Twenty worlds records', 'RWCLtd' (for Rolex Watch Company), 'Geneva Suisse', the '68029 162' reference numbers and carries a full set of Glasgow import hallmarks for 9ct gold, dating to 1929. The back of the case is gleaming, with no personal inscription.
The stunning professionally restored 'sunburst' engine turned dial is in perfect, mint condition. It features beautiful Roman numerals and is signed 'Rolex'. The original blued steel hands are in excellent unbent condition and the lens is very clear.
The watch is fitted with the high-grade Rolex Prima hand-wound 15 jewel movement, which is in very clean condition. The movement is fully signed 'Rolex Prima', 'Timed 6 positions for all climates', 'Swiss Made' and '15 jewels'. The movement has just been serviced by a professional watchmaker and is in excellent working order.
This beautiful watch comes complete with a new Hirsch leather strap and a new Rolex gold plated buckle. It will be posted in new quality non-Rolex watch box, for safekeeping.
A very special vintage watch from one history's most famous names; full of charm and elegance. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
